Introducing ... Nevada City Lillie!

Hi, I'm Lillie! I am eight years young, and I am a beautiful, petite white and red brindle whippet-lady. I used to live in Nevada City with some not-so-nice humans, but I got out and I survived outside over the Sierra winter. I was scared, but when the animal shelter caught me I was so very happy, since I love people and other dogs and I was worried I was going to become bear food out in the wild. I am looking for a home where I will be loved and cherished, since my last owners didn't care about me.

I really love other dogs, big or small, especially boys who like to play. I love people, even children, and I won't chase your cats, if you have them. If you have other dogs for me to play with and hang out with, I will happily wait for you to get home from work so we can snuggle on the couch. If you don't have other dogs, I really need an owner who is home most of the day.

At first, I was afraid of funny things, like the dog door, but I am very brave now. If you don't have a dog door, I will whine to let you know I need to go outside. Since I was practically starved when my saviors found me, I am worried about food and do need encouragement to eat all of my dinner. I have been to the vet and have a clean bill of health. I, Lillie, am a perfect girl, and I am very obedient and mindful of the right way to behave. Did I mention, I love to snuggle on the couch?

If you are interested in Lillie, please contact the NCWFA Rescue team at ncwfarescue@sbcglobal.net. Please note that the Team will need to have a completed Rescue Application on-file for you to be considered for Lillie.

ADOPTED!

Aloha! My name is Daisy, and I am a sweet Hawaiian wahini (girl, for you mainlanders). I began my life in California and had an eventful youth filled with lots of racing on the straight and oval tracks. I retired to the lazy life in Hawaii with my sis Darla and our people. Unfortunately, our people have had to move back to California, and due to family issues I am seeking a forever home.

I, Daisy, have been adopted by the greatest people ever, Ron and Bettina! I even have a younger 'brother' to snuggle with and teach manners to. Aloha!

If you are interested in adopting a rescue whippet, and have the space and time to act as a foster home for the NCWFA, do consider signing on for this, in addition to applying to be a rescue home. Foster homes provide housing, tempermant evaluation, care and love to those rescue whippets who need a bit of time before they go on to their permanent homes. Foster homes always have the right of first refusal on any dog they foster. Signing up to be a foster home is a quick process, requiring an interview and a home check (experience with whippets is preferred, and past dog ownership is essential), and once you've signed up - you never know - the right dog who needs evaluation and time may come along, we may call on you, lightening may strike, and you may end up with a great foster whippet who stays on forever! If you would like to act as a foster home for the NCWFA, please e-mail ncwfarescue@sbcglobal.net and we will be talking to you!

The NCWFA Rescue Team would like to salute our great Club members and friends who worked so hard with us to help find homes for all of our 2010-2011 Rescues, Private Rehomes, and Breeder/Owner Returns - Jackie, Layla, Scorch, Takoda, Austin, Jack, Sammie, Daisy and Darla (2010), Harry Potter, Clyde, Lillie, Shilo and Scottie (2011 so far!), are all in their forever homes, thanks to our great networkers, supporters, foster and adoptive homes!

If you would like to have your info on file with us for a future whippet in need, please submit an application. New whippets can enter the Rescue program at any time. Please fill out an application if you are interested in being added to our waiting list of potential adopters. Applicants receive up-to-the-moment notification of rescues who are ready for adoption, as well as occasional information and updates on whippets and whippet mixes available with other rescue groups and shelters. We do occasionally have a dog who is such a perfect match with an applicant we have on file that they don't even make it onto our webpage, so it is strongly suggested that you fill out an application so we have it on hand in case lightening strikes! Often time whippets who come to us and are being fostered for evaluation end up staying forever in their ("failed") foster homes as new pets, so read below on how to become a foster home for the NCWFA.

We are always seeking caring foster homes for whippets in need. Foster homes agree to evaluate rescue whippets, prepare them for adoption, and help to make them into super companions. Foster homes should be flexible and dog savvy, and dog owning and raising experience is a must. Fostering can be hard work, as rescues are a mixed bag in so far as socialization, temperament and health issues go, but the rewards are great. The biggest danger is often that your 'foster whippet' becomes your 'forever whippet'. Just ask the foster parents, three of them in 2009, and five so far in 2010, who have 'failed' fostering and have great new whippet companions to show for it! If you are interested in becoming a foster home, contact Guin Borstel, Kellee Livingston, Delia Zarges and Donna Wilhoyte, of the NCWFA Rescue Team, at (ncwfarescue@sbcglobal.net) Please also visit our Rescue Gallery to see photos of some of our past rescue alumni (not currently available).
